Nespresso demonstrates support for creative talents as an Official Partner of the Cannes Film Festival

Nespresso demonstrates once again its support for creative talents as an Official Partner of the Cannes Film Festival.
Nespresso is proud to support extraordinary talent in the film and gastronomy industries, as the brand continues its role as Official Coffee Partner of the renowned Cannes Film Festival for the ninth consecutive year. Nespresso will also be supporting, for the sixth consecutive year, the “Grand Prix Nespresso”, a highly prestigious award for the director of the best debut film that will be announced by La Semaine de la Critique.

“The Cannes Film Festival is incredibly important to Nespresso, as it reflects our commitment to
support creative talent,” said Stéphane Detaille, Global Sponsoring & Events Manager.

“We believein fostering talent in creativity, from cinematic spectacles that break the boundaries through to tantalising gastronomic delights and of course, the highest quality coffee.”

Bringing further attention to emerging, talented chefs, Nespresso has chosen an elegant beach location,
La Plage Nespresso, which has already established  a reputation as one of the Festival’s most stylish and sought-after locations for dining and relaxing.
One of the highlights taking place at La Plage Nespresso is an exclusive dinner series entitled
‘LesChefs Font Leur Cinema’.
This gastronomic experience will see the location and the menu transformed spectacularly to reflect three legendary films presented at Cannes in previous years. In addition, the
specially selected, Michelin starred chefs will incorporate Nespresso Grands Crus into their dishes to
give guests a unique dining experience. This bespoke concept is set to delight food and cinema lovers
alike as it draws on the power of storytelling through these two creative mediums to bring the menu
and surroundings to life.

Nespresso announced on 12th May, 2016 the successful entrants of the inaugural Nespresso Talents 2016 contest, a vertical film contest which seeks to inspire and celebrate extraordinary film making talent across the world.
Held at the La Plage Nespresso  on the iconic Cannes Croisette, the top three entrants of the Nespresso Talents 2016 contest were celebrated for their outstanding and innovative work around the theme of ’Explore Your Extraordinary’:

  • Scars: A powerful and evocative film, shot in black and white by Spanish filmmaker Franzo Nájera which focuses on self-image and identity.
  •  Decollo Verticale: A touching and humorous film, which examines the themes of daily life and human relationships, created by Italo Draperi from Italy.
  • An Ordinary Life: An uplifting and poignant celebration of family relationships by Russian filmmaker Lidia Sheinin.

The three winners

The top three films were chosen by a specially selected jury of influential film makers, comprising Gaëlle Denis, Eva Weber, Erik Schmitt and Chief Customer Officer of Nespresso, Alfonso Gonzalez. The jury reviewed each entry submitted via Nespresso.com/talents. The successful young filmmakers each received 6,000€ as well as an exclusive trip to the world renowned 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

Alfonso Gonzalez, Chief Customer Officer, Nespresso commented,
“We are delighted to celebrate the very first Nespresso Talents 2016 filmmakers. The successful entries showcase the most innovative and creative film talent from around the globe. We created Nespresso Talents 2016 as part of our on-going support of cinematography and dynamic storytelling’. At the close of the contest, we received over 380 entries from 41 countries, with a wealth of extraordinary and gifted work, which really challenged the norms of storytelling.

This dynamic new contest to find the best short films required all submissions to be shot vertically, breaking the convention of the usual viewing experience. The Nespresso Talents 2016 contest aims to celebrate this rapidly emerging medium and reflect the increasing trend of mobile content consumption.
