Taking inspirations by this year's Costume Institure exhibition Rei Kawakubo/ Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between, the H&M design team created some one-of-a-kind looks exploring Kawakubo's recurring themes such as deconstructuin, subverted tradition and asymmetry mixed with bows, flowers and polka dots.
The H&M design team created custom looks for this year MET GALA 2017 especially for Nicki Minaj, Stella Maxwell, Jourdan Dunn, Joe Jonas, Future, Ashley Graham and Sasha Lane.
“Partnering with H&M has been an incredible and unique experience. The look we have created is so special to me and I’m looking forward to sharing this moment with everyone. Together with the H&M design team, we embodied the theme; from the dramatic train to Kawakubo’s face. it’s truly inspiring!”
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj wore a sheer tulle gown with a long train in raw-edged silk taffeta, featuring extravagant black vinyl roses trapped at hem and beneath the train. Rapper Future was dressed in a slim-flitted black tail-coat made for organic silk and wool. Model Ashley Graham wore a corset dress influenced by Kawakubo's interest in revealing the inner workings of garments. Jourdan Dunn wore a body skimming dress that played with the theme of deconstructing and subverting traditional garments. Actress Sasha Lane wore a sheer net-like structured dress embellished with polka dots. Joe Jonas was dressed in a deep red slim suit in Italina double-silk satin with black stripe and lapels. Model Stella Maxwell wore a sheer organic silk chiffon dress covered in strands of pearls.
