This year Ruinart is proudly presenting the Masterpiece created by Georgia Russell in its VIP Lounge in Basel from the 18th until the 22nd of June 2014.
"Le Grand Livre" is the Masterpiece and pays tribute to the funding act of the House of Ruinart.
The grandiose sculpture pays hommage to the historic heritage of Ruinart, revealing the memory of the House in a new light.
Year after year Ruinart expresses its commitment to art through partecipating in leading international art fairs and working with well-known artists who create their vision of the House.
Georgia Russell has also realized the Bottle of the Blanc de Blancs for Ruinart with an immaculate white decoration.
The cuts incised with care and delicacy in this adornement play with the light of the Chardonnay.
I had the oppurtunity to meet the artist herself and to get to know a bit more about her and her work.
Graduate from the Royal College of Art she told me she had the oppurtunity to spend some time in Paris as part of a scholarship. Living in Paris, she became passionate about old books, and started going to look for them at the markets along the River Seine.
She then told me she used to cut pieces out of them, glue them together and make collages but she soon abandoned the scissors for the scalpel, as this way she could do something more precise.
She explained how the cuts are not geometric, but they have gestures.
She explained how she took the inspiration for the Masterpiece by visiting the chalk cellars of the House of Ruinart, that she described as stunning, grandiose and fantastic.
She feels honoured to be at Art Basel for Ruinart and see this as a great oppurtunity to get her work to a wider audience.
