Prefestival is now become an unmissable part of Locarno Festival and this year's movie doesn't need any introduction: Grease. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the cult film that has made and continues to make everyone dance, Tuesday, July 31st at 9.30 pm, Piazza Grande will surely turn into a leather jacket and quilted hair tribute welcoming the unbridled dances of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
The nights that will characterize Locarno71, however, do not end here. On the contrary, they start earlier. Already on Monday 30th, at 8.30 pm at the GranRex Leopard Club another film will be presented to the public, this time is also a World Premiere: Mario Botta. The documentary dedicated to the Ticinese architect, produced and realized by Loretta Dalpozzo and Michèle Volontè, will be the protagonist of a unique evening at the GranRex, at the special price of CHF 12, made possible thanks to the support of UBS. On the screen, 48 hours before the ribbon cut of Locarno71, the story in pictures of a new challenge by Mario Botta, the tireless architect who in one of his latest projects, the realization of a mosque in China, has found the essence of his subject and inspiration for deep personal and professional reflections.
Between Prefestival and special screenings, the first bright lights of the festival atmosphere this year will be switched on for the off-festival events of the #LocarnoExperience.
There are two main spaces at Locarno71: laRotonda - the village of the Festival, and the Locarno Garden la Mobiliare - the garden of the Festival.
La Rotonda is surely the place to get into the swing of Locarno Festival, which will open already on Friday 27 July, from 18.00 to 3.00, starting the long run of the #LocarnoExperience with 17 evenings of live concerts, Dj set, Food & Beverage and much more: among the bands present on the first weekend also the Drunky Funk, the Balkan Lovers and the Train to Roots who will perform on the stage of the Grand Hotel Swisscom.
In the heart of the old city on the other hand from 28th of July, the Locarno Garden la Mobiliare will open its doors, again with live music and all that is needed to breathe and experience its unmistakable atmosphere.
