Jeremy Scott
For the show of Jeremy Scott's AW collection 2016/2017 called "Cowboys and Poodles", Blondies' "Hanging on the Telephone ' as background music while the models in sparkling Cowgirl Boots and cartoon prints in retro style with sequins walked on the catwalk
To match this look and a galactic-looking makeup Eugene Souleiman created a hairstyle, which complemented the show through its eccentricity: burlesque glamour, John Waters iconic Hairspray hairstyles and glamorous look of the pin-up girls of the fifties - all these inspirations come together in a "Barbie goes to Vegas" look.
"The style of Jeremy Scott is very voluminous, sexy and some would say tacky - I call him charming and fun. There's a touch of Barbarella - but it is all about volume, not perfection. Although the look is anchored in the fifties, it shows its modernity in the texture and the imperfection of the style. "Said Eugene Souleiman.
The Styling
Eugene treated the hair first with EIMI Sugar Lift and used EIMI Perfect Setting on the tips. An intensive use of the product gave the hair a chemically treated look and feel. In order to achieve easily the voluminous look of the fifties style, which is inspired by the classic pin-up girls.
After the hair was dried with a round brush, we used large curlers and then brushed the hair out. Eugene used EIMI Stay Styled hairspray to fix the style, and teased it at the end for more volume.
DKNY
The inspiration for DKNY’s AW16 show started with the brand itself and its under-stated cool, New Yorker glamour. Eugene wanted a style that reflected the personality and individuality of each model and brought the fun factor to fashion week, perfect for the DKNY ethos. On the looks, he shares: “We’ve actually created about four different styles here – we’ve got high and side ponytails, loose buns, rough waves and bound-braids. It’s a mash-up of city girl style through the ages, which is what New York is all about and I think this collection of looks really celebrates that diversity.”
The Styling
Eugene’s favourite technique at DKNY was the bound-braid – a cornrow style row wrapping around the model’s head and tied with white elastic to add contrast and a design feature to the look. He says: “This is one of my favourite looks from the show. We’re using the white elastic so that the braid really stands out in the girls’ hair and I think it makes it look really modern and current. By binding the hair rather than the usual braid, we’re creating something that looks different and unexpected, which looks really cool and that’s what DKNY is all about.”
