Lepard Club Award 2018 to MEG RYAN

Thanks to her witty character and the unique ability to combine beauty and irony. For years the undisputed queen of romantic comedy, but capable over time also to challenge herself with other genres such as drama and thriller.

Meg Ryan occupies a key role in the popular collective imagination it is proven by the gallery of characters who have animated films that have become - in their field - cult movies. 

Just think of the films that were born from the meeting with Nora Ephron, the screenwriter and director who realized three cult films: When Harry Met Sally (1989), Sleepless in Seattle (1993) and You've Got Mail (1998). Works in which the talent of Meg Ryan was also enhanced by the ability to duet in full harmony with actors such as Billy Crystal or Tom Hanks.

Locarno Festival wants to pay tribute to her career through one of its most prestigious awards: the Leopard Club Award. So, following Faye Dunaway, Mia Farrow, Andy Garcia, Stefania Sandrelli, Adrien Brody, this year Piazza Grande will be all for her on Friday August 3rd for the awarding of the prize.

Movie stars @ Locarno71

The nights of Locarno71 will be brightened by many movie stars. Light on Isabella Ragonese, Laetitia Dosch and Marthe Keller. During the eleven Festival days, the stage and the Piazza will turn into a splendid mirror and setting for the great international cinema, with well-known faces beloved by the public as well as authors who have left their mark on the history of the seventh art and the Locarno Festival among others Ethan Hawke, Antoine Fuqua and Jean Dujardin.

LOCARNO INDUSTRY ACADEMY partecipants announcement

For the younger generations Locarno Pro's Academy represents a unique opportunity to discover and better understand the world of the Industry and its challenges. The 2018 edition will be characterized by collaboration and creativity.
The 10 selected partecipants work in the fields of traditional and digital distribution, management, international sales, festivals and marketing. They come from France, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland and Russia. Everyone followed an atypical path that demonstrates their passion for cinema.
The Industry Academy will be the perfect opportunity for them not only to dialogue with a group of high-level professionals, but also to ask questions and enrich the experience in their professional field and to better understand that of their colleagues.
Invited speakers and tutors for the 2018 edition: Mathias Noschis (Alphapanda), Bobby Allen (MUBI), Matthijs Wouter Knol (Berlin EFM), Virginie Devesa (Alpha Violet), Pierre Menahem (Still Moving), René Wolf (Eye Film), Janet Pierson (SXSW), Franklin Leonard (The Black List) and others.

Record of visitors at Moon & Stars 2018

57 unforgettable concerts, 25 food-trucks and 11 bars: the Moon & Stars Festival in Locarno was once again a successful experience in every sense. 55,000 music fans attended the concerts in Piazza Grande and altogether over 120,000 visitors have passed between Largo Zorzi and Piazza Grande in the 13 days of the event, which is an absolute record. Even more people have followed "the most beautiful festival of Switzerland" on social media: 2 million users have been reached on Instagram and Facebook.
The Moon & Stars 2018 brought top artists to Ticino, which for nine nights have thrilled the
55,000 visitors of the impressive stage of Piazza Grande. The Festival was opened with the great power and emotions by Anastacia and then followed by Nex, Max Pezzali and Francesco Renga. For rapper Bligg the stage was not enough, so he sang from a balcony overlooking the sold out Piazza Grande. Over 10,000 people on the same evening sang loudly with the Fantastischen Vier.
The Script, Rita Ora, James Arthur and Milky Chance were some of the big names on stage during this edition. Emotional moments were assured by James Blunt, Emeli Sandé and Adel Tawil.
Rock wasn't neglected at Moon & Stars with the Sunrise Avenue, Gianna Nannini and the Scorpions. And of course there was room also for national artists such as Hecht, Baschi and Pegasus. The artists have appreciated the unique setting of the historic center of Locarno just like their fans. 
Thanks to the Food & Music Street located between the lake and Piazza Grande it has been possible to offer a culinary paradise each day.
During the 13 days 25 food-trucks with a variety of almost 100 dishes and 11 bars have fulfilled all the wishes of the 120000 visitors. The delicacies could also be savored during the concerts in "Piazza Piccola", on whose stage a total of 38 artists played their music making it one of the highlights for many visitors. All the concerts of the "Piazza Piccola" were free just like last year, including the opening concerts of the Italian stars Ricchi and Poveri and respectively the closing night with Nickless. Additional attractions such as fire eaters, jugglers and break dance dancers have made the wonderful summer evenings perfect.
